I have an '02 Johnson 9.9 that will run at full throttle but will not idle. It is also hard to start at times. I think it is not getting fuel at low rpm but I am not sure. If anyone has had this problem or can give me some advice I would be most thankful.
If you can find some SeaFoam in spray can, spray down inside carb good,let sit a day spray again and let soak. Dose your gas good with SeaFoam then run it like you stole it. Should clean it out. Low speed jet is probably clogging up.

Think it will help mine Cray, I done run 3 tanks with Seafoam in it but am gonna give this a try. Do we need to crank em and then unhook the fuel line and let it un the carbs dry.
John that won't hurt to get the gas out so it can really get in there. My first experience with it was back in the late 60's. My first boat had a V4 60 even rude. Back in those days we used non detergent motor oil to mix with gas and you can imagine how that gummed up engines. We not only had carb problems but carbon buildup in the exhaust. The first spray I found was made by Seeafoam and marketed under the even rude label. Here are the directions. Run motor until it is warm, while running at high idle spray half can in carbs intermittently, then fog carbs until motor dies. Let sit for one hour then run under load at full throttle until it quits smoking. It would clean carbs and also you would find carbon residue coming out the exhaust. Run yours dry. Spray a good amount in each one a couple days in a row then run the snott out of it. You could still need kits but I have used it on outboards and all kinds of small engines and it works. Most of the time we run SeaFoam through fairly clean carbs and it keeps them that way. But if they are bad another way is to rig a hose to a small tank with half a can of SeaFoam and a gallon of gas run till carbs are full of that mixture. Let sit for a day or two, then do it again let soak. Then hook back to regular tank and run it good. Takes a little time but sure cheaper than carb rebuild on a motor like yours. Had a mechanic at a local marine dealer back in the 80's tell me that creep was the best tool he had in the shop. Most tuneups were accomplished with it and a set of plugs.
A little late to the game here and you have prob fixed this but thought i would add my 2 cents....
I would bet your timing is off, especially if you have tried to adjust the idle screw on the motor. Doing this even a little bit will change the timing and thus cause the motor not to idel or idle rough depending on how far off it is but still allow it to run wot. It will also make it hard to start. If you have a timing gun you can check and adjust this yourself if not take it in.
So did you get it fixed yet? If so what was it?
