I was checking over our boat the other day after replacing the trolling motor head. Lights, tire pressures etc. Got to the winch strap only to find that the box X stitching threads that form the loop for the bow hook have separated approximately 50%. Got a new RHINO brand ordered that will arrive today. Just a note here so y’all might consider checking yours…

That's why every boat should have a safety chain on the winch.
Almost lost a boat once when the winch let loose, they will fail eventually.
Agreed. Mine does as well. Thank for the safety chain reminder as well.
Certainly is a wear item. Absolutely needs check and replaced when they get worn
Most winch manufacturers will tell you that their winches are for moving things, not securing them.Quote:

Not to change the PSA importance, I've looked at both pictures and notice your Stoltz roller is "gummed up" like mine have always done. Does anyone have a good method for preventing that or at least effectively cleaning them? They are non marking when new but once that gum builds up it marks every time. :dono

I would think one could use mineral spirits. My boat is camo with a plate at the bow just below the eye so I don’t notice any hull marking.
