There are two things you need to check here: the lighting coil under the flywheel and the regulator/ rectifier. To test the coil under the flywheel you'll need a DVA (see this video on making a cheap one:*https://youtu.be/juhri_NxQcQ) If that coil isn't putting out the specified voltage it is your problem. If it is good connect the regulator/ rectifier again and see what voltage it is putting out. If it is low then it will need replacing. Hope this helps

Thanks I see what I can get done .
Thump, check beside your regulator. May be a little black box snap together cover with a fuse in it. Check that first. If that is good most likley regulator is bad. See if it looks overheated or burned. Merc has had a lot of problems with those regulators over the years.
The most common problem is bad diode(s) in the rectifier. Nowadays the rectifier is part of the regulator. Testing instructions are given in your manual.
Thanks y'all . I will check .
Checked that fuse already it is good
Well cray I said I checked it ,the fuse but sometimes finally found the little black boxes . And I did have a blown fuse in the plug like thing . Going see if that's my problem tonight when I get home . I hope it is . Thanks gentlemen for your help .
I had the same problem and it was a 25 Amp fuse under the motor cowling in one of the black box fuse holders
