If it’s just the cowling which I think is just a cover I wouldn’t think it would hurt anything. Might help if you could post a couple of pictures.

You could probably repair that with a repair kit from auto parts store or maybe even a good 2 part epoxy. Removing it would probably make it a little easier. But I don’t see it causing any further damage if just left alone other than cosmetic.
