Got lucky
Tuesday morning went fishing for bluegill since I was craving fish tacos. Strung up 10 7.5-9" gills which is perfect for two meals for me. Since it was only a little after 9am I kept fishing. I was using my 7'ultralight with #2 Maxima mono and a 1/48 hand tied duck jig on a #12 sickle hook. Hook another fat gill and while I'm bringing it in this huge bass eats my gill. Opened my bail and gave it a chance to swallow the gill before setting the hook. Entire fight lasted about 5 minutes before I lipped her. I was shaking so bad I had problems taking pictures, almost dropped my phone in the lake a couple times. Bass weighed 10.23lbs., was 24.5" long with an enormous girth of 21". The gill it ate pushed it over the 10# mark, only thing I saw was the tail of the gill it swallowed. Not bad for 2# test. I released her and after about a minute she bolted and swam away splashing me when she bolted away. After this I was done for the day.

10lbr. That's a big one, supersized!

I know that was something else catching a bass that big, and especially on 2# test line too. Congrats.

WTG Jim! That is one monster bass especially on such light line!
Have had this happen a couple of times myself and it is a real thrill.

also congrats on the nice BG. Those are dandy's. Were they on beds?

The gills weren't on beds Tuesday when I caught her but on the other side I found two spots where they were on beds Thursday. Caught several 9" and one 9 1/4" and released them all. Going back today and will be keeping some.
