Report; 8/9/17
After our last trip, Walt & I were psyched up about getting back at it! Our expectations were high as we left the launch ramp:

Air temp was in the low 50's with the water steady at 70 degrees. Unfortunately, it was pretty calm today. As you all may know by now, we much prefer the "bite" when the wind is steady (doesn't matter to us from which direction) at or above 10 mph. Today, it was dead calm until almost 11 am! UGH! Bluebird skies (post cold front) with not a cloud to be found anywhere. Here's what we faced when we started fishing at about 8 am this morning:

Talk about TOUGH! You actually couldn't ask for a prettier day to be on the water. However, the fish were not in agreement today. We started off casting. Then did some trolling. Then did some drifting (after 11 am) when a slight 5 mph breeze started up. We did poorly today by our standards; 25 fish total, with 9 bluegill and the rest crappie. The bluegill were fat and sassy and full of fight:

The crappie were less than stellar. Here's what they tended to look like:

We did our best with presentations. Tried curly tails, CB Sliders tails, straight tails (including Jokers) and even tubes. Nothing could get them really fired up today. They probably spent too much time at the local pub last night and were sleeping off hangovers - or something!? Anyway, we called it about 12:30 pm this afternoon. Too much sun, not enough fun. Hope some of you had a better day on the water.
