Kayak rack
Ok everyone, I'm getting stir crazy I guess. We've had about a week of nice weather and I just bought my new kayak yesterday and I'm itching to get out there! But I've got some projects I'd like to get done first. The first is a give in I want to get the yak rigged to my liking. The second is I'd like to build a bolt on rack to go on my utility trailer. I'd like for it to hold 6 kayaks and leave the trailer floor open. I'm a craftsman level fabricator so the skills and equiptment are no problem what I'm wanting is to see some designs already out there to copy. Anyone have some pictures and rough deminsions?

I have wanted to do the same thing and have been scrapping around for some metal. I wanted a rack that would maybe pin on rather than actually bolt so it would be quick on and off.

My trailer is 20"X4X8, a box. I used the frame from a portable carport. Some of the frame post goes across the main frame for supports. I carry 2 yaks on each side and 2 to 4 in the middle. The box is for camping supplies. The supports can be removed, a tarp can be added like a small tent.
I'm on a facebook group, some good ideas there.

This is what I'm kinda thinking about. With some rough dimensions being 6foot across 5 foot tall and each outright being 36 inches I figure buyin all new pipe and tubing it should be about $60

20' of 2" square tube, 20' of 1 1/2" square tube, 20' of 1 1/2" pipe plus flat metal for braces you'll have some left over.
For your pins use a bolt long enough to cut threads off and have room for a hairpin, weld a chain link on the head for a tie down point. Weld chain links where needed instead of eye bolts.
Cover ends so wasp can't build in them.
