Looks like a drum to me. One which has been whopped on pretty good. First cousin to a red drum (aka redfish). The one you have lives in fresh water, and the other lives in brackish water. I don't keep them. Some do. People pay good money to fish for red drum, I wouldn't.
I think billhaik is right, although I'm from a different state. We eat them out of our clear rivers, but not out of our lakes, at least as for as I know. They are not bad, a little darker meat than game fish. They do not have alot of bones like suckers, redhorse, or buffalo. It is one of our preferred fish to gig up here. Good luck. dave
Drum- I dont eat them but some people do.
Deff drum.... Yummmm... I like them for that fact that they don't have alot of bones.
drum
Thanks Guys
I am cooking it
When you clean it, look right behind the eye sockets. There is a little white rock behind each eye. On a fish that size, the rocks will be about the size of your little finger nail.
I wouldn't have known, but welcome aboard.
I also think it is a drum a.k.a(Rockhead).
