I just purchased a pittboss pellet grill/ smoker just wondering if anyone ever tried smoked crappie? Is it better to fillet them or do them whole. Or are they to thin and will dry out before they are done. Any suggestions?+Cross+

I have smoked them on the Pit Boss. I kept them moist with melted butter. Good stuff. I mashed up the leftovers added mayo like you would with tuna and made sandwiches. Good stuff also
Dockshootinjack you must be like me and couldn’t sleep.
I haven’t tried yet, but want to try along with a smoked crappie dip recipe that Kent Driscoll shared.

You get old enough you start waking up before 1am. At 62 I can't sleep longer than 4 hours, unfortunately the need for sleep can strike at almost any time. As far as smoking crappie are we talking about above 165 degrees or below? I sugar cure the fish I smoke as it's always below the 165 degree line.
I smoked them above 200
smoked a salmon or 2, some redfish and an eel , maybe a crappie too .....run my smoke hard and my temps around 180 to 200 .....
