HOI Crappie Club Easter Weekend Tournament Results

Hello All,

Wow, what a weekend! Saturday started out fantastic, nice bright sunny morning. Little to no wind. Then the fishing started and the weather changed. Man did it change. The high for the day was at 7am, 38 degrees. By 9am the temps had dropped and we were facing 20mph gusts. By noon the lake had 3’ swells and it rained off and on. Fishing was tough, boat control was a challenge and if you were out of the wind, the fish weren’t biting. They weren’t biting much better in the wind either. Couple of teams managed to put a limit in their live-well. Appears most of their fish were caught before the winds started, then everything shut down and got real, real slow.

I had the pleasure and honor of fishing with Andy Bugos, the new owner of Adventure Sports Outdoors (ASO) magazine. Andy bought ASO magazine from Harry Canterbury recently. Based on my time with Andy, the magazine is in good hands. Andy is an outdoorsmen and loves to hunt and fish. Sounds like he has some great ideas for the magazine and I look forward to my monthly subscription. We could have brought a limit to the ramp, however we had a few too many that self-released at the boat. We marked a ton of fish in about a half dozen spots we fished, but never got solid action. It was mostly one or two per spot and move on. Never managed a pattern either. Some were caught on minnows, others on a variety of colored lures, some with scent, some without. It was a mixed bag. Most were dinks. Andy and I managed to bring 4 keepers to the scales, and one serious contender for big fish. In the end, we came up short. I’d like to congratulate the winning teams.

1st Place: Davis and Montooth 6.30 lbs.
2nd Place: Stoddard and Little 5.80 lbs.
3rd place: Dowdy and Boring 5.06 lbs.

Big Fish: Davis and Montooth 1.47 lbs.

This Thursday April 5th HOI Crappie Club meeting, 6.30pm Presley’s Outdoors in Bartonville.
Next Tournament is Lake Shelbyville, Wilborn Ramp, Saturday April 21st. 7am – 2pm.
