Got into them good today.
Jeff and I took a trip down to Delton today to fish Wall Lake. We started out fishing in a couple of canals and managed to put a few OK fish in the live well. Our next stop was a shallow flat that was around 9' deep with scattered cabbage beds. We kept seeing fish break the surface and figured they were bluegills so we switched to rods rigged with #10 hooks and slip bobbers baited with red worms. The first fish we got was a real nice crappie so we switched back to our jig and plastics and started hammering the specks. It was calm enough that we could follow the schools of fish that were surface feeding and catch the crappie that were camped out under them. I can honestly say that I have never caught crappie that fast and furious for that length of time, ever! We found that the fish were relating to the cabbage beds and were able to drop 3 marker buoys on different patches, which proved to be a good decision when the wind picked up. We would anchor up wind of the marker, toss out a jig/ plastic under a bobber, give it a twitch and BAM, fish on. This kind of action lasted for several hours and we figured we caught and released close to 250 fish 7"-11" in addition to the 49 crappie and 1 bluegill we kept. When we left at 330 they were still biting. What an awesome day on the water. This is the only pic we got, we were way to busy catching fish.Attachment 398916
