Lake Broadway report 3-17-22
This was my first time fishing Broadway in a few years so others may be able to add some details of what the fishing was like before the rains on Wednesday. It's been a long time since I have used this many techniques on one trip. I start off longlining four rods loaded with 2 rods with 1/16 oz jigs and 2 rods with 1/32 oz jigs. I pulled from the ramp to the flats past the golf course with not one bite. Also tried tipping with what was suppose to be small minnows that turned out to be filletable size minnows! Didn't make any difference in the LL bite and the water at the back of the lake was 55 degrees. On the return I fished the opposite side of the lake tight lining three rods using jigs tipped with those three inch minnows on the lake side of the yak and throwing jigs to the bank and dock shooting all of the dock that I could. The tight lining rods caught 2 crappie and fishing the banks and docks I was only able to catch 6 crappie and the occasional bream. Of these 8 crappie only three was keepers for me being over 10''.
Now the water temps from the back of the creek at 55 degrees changed to 65 degrees at the spillway and the water was anywhere from muddy to hard stained. That 2'' of rain really cooled the lake water down and I'm sure was the reason for the slow bite. All this being said the crappie are trying to spawn and I'm adding a picture to show and all fish were released. After a few years of not fishing it has been so nice to get back on the water and spend half of a day, more reports will follow as I do more fishing.
