I have a fairly small aluminum boat. Would a drift sock help with some of the effects from the wind? And also does it help while trolling? Thanks, Dan

depending on the size it should slow you down
I have a 30" that I use almost every time I troll. It helps to maintain speed and heading in the wind. Can be put off the side if the wind is blowing you sideways in relation to direction of your troll. I wouldn't be without it now.
I have a 16ft Lowe, what size sock should I get?
i've heard you should always get the next size up from what is recommended!
One of many opinions..........I have a 22" diameter Minn Kota, and have been using it for some a 19' Tracker. It's OK for 5-10 mph wind. Ordered the 65" diameter last night from Cabelas because above 10 mph, it's no good for a boat this size if you slow troll (with the wind) and try to stay .5 - 1 mph. They're good in open water, but not stump-field-friendly.
That's what I've heard, too, particularly on this website.
I have heard of people dragging a chain behind the boat to help slow them down.
just dragg a chain then all thoose guys who put out structure that you tear up dragging the chains will get upset
HECK YEA, I am too cheap to buy one. I took an old pillow case and ran a piece of acoustic ceiling wire inside the cuff to keep it round. Then tied three pieces of trotline string to make it pull right. Made a 'briddle' out of parachute cord to tie from both back corners. I mostly longline and try to pull jigs down wind. This thing keeps the back end in the back and maintains a most steady drift. OH, I fish from a 16' alumin.
