Prop slip question

What is a realistic expectation I should have for slip on my main motor prop?

I have an H20PFC, 6 inch manual jack plate, a Yamaha Vmax SHO 150, and a 25 pitch PT prop. I am still playing with motor height, but prop is currently about 4.5" below the pad. Motor turns 5600 RPM when trimmed out and boat runs 45 miles an hour with full load and live wells full. I am not on the high limit of the running trim and can still trim up a little more, but when I do, prop starts to blow out, hull doesn't lift anymore, rpm goes to 5800 and just gives a big rooster tail with no increase in speed. When I run the numbers, I have 33 to 35% prop slip at WOT. I am thinking I should have no more than 8 to 15% prop slip. I am debating changing the prop out for a turbo FXP, but with this much prop slip on this prop, I have no clue what size prop to order to play with. Thoughts?

Thanks Cray, I have been all over the BBC and in the Xpress forum over there, reading thru all of the setup stuff, from what I can tell there is no way a boat as heavy as mine with a 150 should be able to turn a 25P prop at the RPM I am, most of those guys running 25P props are running 200 HP and up motors and have boats significantly lighter than mine. Based on what I have read a 23P Turbo FXP should be about right for my boat, but the slip in this prop still has me concerned. I may sent Mark Croxton an email and see what his recommendation would be and just order one of his worked props.

Well if it can be figured out he can. I agree it would appear you have way to much slip. I have always used 15 % as the rule of thumb.

Have you tried lowering the motor more. if it's slipping that bad lowering it should help and gain more lift and speed.

I haven't tried lowering, will give that a shot next
