Got fluid beds but never use them. Just the old fashion way for 25+ years….
I have painted 1000's dipping the heads as well. Never could get my fluid bed to work right neither.
Just finished an order of 8,500 painted jigheads all done with my fluid beds if they are working right they are awesome if your powder is heavy it can be a struggle but adding columbia clear coat will lighten most heavy paint and make it fluidize very well.
Now that's a lot of jigs!
No doubt Dave glad it's gone but another is on it's way and they usually order 20,000....gonna mess with my fishin for a few days.
:yikes 20,000! Holy smokes! :yikes
Agree, I have painted ten's of thousands of jig heads using hand dip method. I know bed works, but not well for me. I use a propane torch as heat method, use caution as small heads will melt quickly.
I have found that certain colors are nearly impossible to get painted WITHOUT a fluid bed, others I can dip without issues. I do havever utilize my bed for nearly every jig I paint. I cannot stand drips on jig heads from hanging, or drips along the hook if the jig is cured in a jig clamp. Yellows, Green, Chartruese, white and all the candy colors all seem to drip without a fluid bed. I have tried all the tricks of less heat to cure, quick swirl, different heat sources, hitting the painted heat with heat again before the cure, but I cannot consistently paint them without defects.
I know it probably doesnt matter to the fish if the head is painted perfectly, but I do find cleaner, well done jigs more appealing.
