Default How I Paint My Jigheads

Over the years I’ve received a lot of compliments on my jigheads and thought I’d share how I paint them for those that are interested. If using heat shrink make sure it is pulled away from head before painting otherwise it gets in the paint. If painting a lot of jigheads and heat shrink isn’t feasible a pair of 45 degree needle nose modified so that eye of hook fits flush in pliers will treat you right and keep paint out of the eye. The 2nd cup I’m dipping in is clear. I use to mix clear in my paints but no longer do. I then bake at 320 for 20 minutes. I preheat oven to 320 1st and use a thermometer as my oven thermometer isn’t accurate. Jighead always come out of oven shiny as in video and never have paint drips.

Jigheads in video are for hand ties so I'm not worried about paint on shaft of hook. If I was worried, I'd simply shave paint off with a razor blade. When painting barbed heads I heat the head so that the barb isn't in direct contact with the heat gun. This keeps paint to a minimum on the barbs. Too much paint on barb is not good.

Thank you. Been telling myself for the longest to make a video and post it. Anyone can do this. Hopefully this video helps.

Awesome video and photos. Not to sound stupid but what does the 2nd coat in clear do? I have not done that before.
