    Default Question on Disco colors

I got my fluid beds in over the Christmas holidays and finally had a little time to plat a little today. I did 4 different colors I heated dipped in paint and then dipped in clear all turned out pretty good I thought I really liked the disco blue then I put them on my rack and set my oven on 350 for 20 minutes. When I pulled them out they all looked great except for the blue which was the only ones with glitter they had turned a darker shade of blue with no glitter showing and have a rougher texture did I bake them to long or to high of temp. or both.

I bake my jig heads at 320 for 20 minutes. Also you might get a thermometer to see if your oven thermometer is accurate.

What Dr ip said plus I have found if I heat my head just enough to get paint to stick and then bake the Disco colors do a lot better. If head is to hot seems I get just a rough head and no glitter effect.

If it is rough you have heated the head hot enough that it curled the glitter or at least my story and Iím sticking with it. From pouring plastics I had certain glitter that if I put in too hot of plastic it would curl.

Most glitter, even the stuff used to make soft plastics, doesnt typically respond well to heat 350 and above. When I do disco colors, I usually turn my oven down to 320ish and they come out pretty good.

This explains a lot. I have never had luck with glitter but I have a tendency to over heat often. Thanks for the help

Yeah and glitter in powder paint is no different than glitter for plastic. Both are high temp glitter. In the disco it is a .008 glitter. Several discos I add additional glitter to powder. Silver is one.

Those look good to me. I think Stevie Wonder could see that gold one. I’ve always cooked my heads at 320* for 20 minutes and had good results.I don’t do very much, small batches. Most of mine are nekked.
