    Default Powder Paint Questions

Wanting to get more colors for powder painting. Most are sold in 1 or 2 oz containers. Anyone know about how many jigs you can paint with that amount? Seems it would be better buy to buy 1 lb of powder besides protec. I also noticed couple different types of powder. Does it matter? Would it go bad? Looking at prismatic powders, they have everything you could imagine.

This is just me, but if painting just for yourself you be hard pressed to use a 2 oz jar in a couple of years. If selling then different story. I have jars of a lot of colors that I have had 6-8 years or more and haven’t even dented them. Pink, orange, chartruse and bright green I may buy one jar a year. Most of mine goes on the floor from me spilling it. Clumsy in my old age. I have a jar of clear I bought in a 1 lb bag from rosies probably 8 years ago and still have 1/4 lb left and I put it in everything.

Cray said it best. I think 2 oz is enough especially for the odd ball colors you might want to try. I do buy white in 1 lb but it lasts for years. Here again I only paint 3 to 5 hundred a year.

Oh having said that. I put 2 of the 2oz bottles in my fluidizing cups which I have some in the cups for years. Keep your powder dry at all times. Aerated paint uses a lot less paint than just stirred paint. I will just stir if I am doing a dozen for a friend.

plus if you mix it with clear, gives you twice as much and goes on much better, IMHO.

You start getting into prismatic colors and you’ll need a base coat to get the effects they have pictured. Will tell you in description what base coat to use. You’ll also need a deep wallet. Lol

Yes I seen some took base coats, some top coats but figured since wanting both the chrome and clear I would have it covered. Also thought over time might be cheaper to just buy larger amounts once and be done. Think I will do protec instead, everyones steered me that direction.

Another question, do you have to have the fluid bed cups for each color? Figured I could share but don’t want colors bleeding into each other either. And if you do get cups can you just store powder in them as long as sealed good?

I have come dedicated cup’s and then a couple of cup’s I rotate through. Never notice a problem of bleed since it comes out of cup into jar pretty good. I just blow or wipe out. Use test caps for the size of your cups and does a great job of keeping dry.

Not trying to steer this thread in another direction, but a couple of previous posters have mentioned keeping your powder dry. Well, I made a mistake that I just discovered this afternoon and would like to know a solution. Two days ago I painted some jigs, outside on the covered deck. I store all my paint and fluid bed apparatus together in a Plano ammo type box with a cam lock. But I left everything on the deck. Today the paint was clumpy and the air would not circulate through the TJ Tackle cups. Anyone have a solution?
