Dave, I add a ounce to the new powder paint for 3 ounce total. On Harbor Freight paint I cut it 50/50

Is this for all Protec paint? (disco, crinkle, etc.) 1 ounce clear to 2 oz paint?

It's hard to give an exact amount. 2 parts paint to one part clear is a good start. If you don't like the way the paint acts, slowly go up in clear. Depending on the paint color I sometimes go 2 parts clear to 1 part paint.

Dave it will really surprise you how much the powder can be cut. Many tyers/jig painters started mixing clear with power paint on another site many years ago and the success was listed on how their paint reacted to clear. It's all about paint pigment in the factory paint you buy. Don't go crazy trying to mix all your paint but do you own testing considering what information we have shared with you. If you ever feel like you mixed to much clear just add some factory paint back into the mix.

Good advice there. That's part of the fun of this method. One color will be easy to work with every time; another will be temperamental....kinda like our wives! I have trouble with the Bass Green color of Protec. It either wants to clump, or turn black (too much heat). So I will experiment with your approach Stump Hunter. Thanks

OK another question. How much paint do you add to the 2" fluid bed cups? Do you add the whole 2 oz or just like a tablespoon? Sorry for all the questions and I'm really appreciative of everyone's help and knowledge. Thanks Guys!

I add about 1/3 to 1/2 of the cup.

The last Pro-Tec I bought was new Penny but I buy the auto brand powder and have no problems with it. I usually mix 2 to 1 clear. Rosey's seems not to have the 200% gloss clear anymore, but clear from Orbit, Columbia and Prismatic all work well. I learned a lot and mix some of my own colors!! One thing I always recommend is this!! Whatever you do WRITE IT DOWN!! exactly how much of each you mixed cause I have one I really like and can't remember how I made it!!

There is a thread about custom mix's if you want to go that far with it!

I learned not to cut my disco colors. Regular pro tec colors I have cut up to 50/50 no problem so 1 once whatever color with 1 once clear. Have been doing this since I started. Now a days I do 2 oz whatever color to 1 oz clear.

A few days ago I got some clear Protec and mixed it 4:1 (paint to clear) with that Bass Green color. This afternoon I painted some jigs with it and they came out perfect. First time that color has worked flawlessly for me. Thanks for the tips.
