    Default Preventing Eyes Getting Painted

Using a fluid bed, what is the secret? I saw one video where one of the board members was holding the eye with a pair of hemostats. I tried this and, while the eyes were relatively free of paint, the hemostats were not, actually were quite a mess. So, what's the best way to avoid this problem? I am using 2" TJ Tackle fluid beds.
    Thanks

I think I’m gonna try next time using two pairs of hemostats. The first to heat the jig then the second to grab the jig eye after heating and dip in paint. My thinking is if the hemostats do not get hot then the paint shouldn’t stick to them.
That’s my plan and thinking anyway. I have access to hemostats so if I mess a pair up no big deal.

There are lots of ideas out there on this site for sure. The most effective one at keeping the eyes clean I have used heat shrink tube, but it adds a lot of time to the process. I only do a couple dozen at a time usually and have more time than since. I'm sure others will share their ideas soon.

Heat shrink tubing is the way to go.

I just get the smallest size I can get and cut it into 3/8 inch lengths. I push a piece on each eyelet and swivel if my jig has one. When I heat the jig head the shrink tube gets smaller and then dip in paint. Let cool and pull of tubing. Some times I can get 2 or 3 jigs out of a piece of tube. The jigs come out nice and clean.

After my jigs are powder coated (holding the eye with hemostats) I clean the eyes with a knife edge before loading them into the oven for curing. The hemostats do have to be cleaned as the paint builds up on them but that is easy to do with the same knife. I do a few hundred heads at a time and been doing the heads this way for many many years.

I use 1/16 oz heat shrink. Can get a 100” roll on eBay for $7 shipped. I simply cut a small enough piece to cover eye, heat head, dip in paint and then once cooled pull heat shrink off with finger nails.

For years I used hemostats like stumphuntrr and just cleaned edges with knife blade. Then someone posted about using heat shrink on eyes which I have been doing on swivels for years. Bought some and tried it. Like Dr Nip have found it to work perfect on the eyes. Takes no more time to remove than scrapping but much cleaner end result.
