    Default New to pouring

Hello guys I’ve been lurking around here for a few months but I’m looking at getting into pouring my own heads. Wondering where the best place is to buy a few molds from I’m particularly wanting the pony head style spinner molds in 1/8 and 1/16 to start with. I got a lee melting pot and and about 50 lbs. of pure lead. I realize I got a lot to learn and might have a few questions along way so I guess I need to get my molds and figure out what hardware and hooks I need and I’m wanting to use the sickle hooks I’ve been using them a couple of years now and really like them thanks in advance for any help.

It’s just time and money and the fulfillment of making it your self ! I started that route but passed what few things I had to my good buddy that has been doing it a while and has more time and patience and out door space than I have ! And he keeps me supplied up! If it weren’t for that I would Probably order bulk for about 90 bucks a 1000 and be done with it! Good luck with your venture!
    Too blessed to be stressed!

At 1.00 a piece for a pony head and I loose quite a few I figured I could save a few bucks and give me something to do at night and it would give me and Garrett something else to do together plus he’s wanting to learn how to tie some also.

Best place for the most part I have found.

Just a suggestion to hopefully save you a few bucks in parts to start with. Get your molds and pour blanks until your sick of pouring them then pour a few more. Pony heads can be kinda tricky to start with putting the swivels and hooks in and keeping everything in place to start with.

I use Zeiner's almost exclusively when I can...I buy bulk 3D eyes and some other hooks they don't carry to save but they get most of my business. They're good, helpful people. Don't order directly from Do-It, they are significantly more expensive to help out their distributors sell more product.

You'd want this. Do-It Horse Head & Pony Head Jig Mold
Horse head is no collar, pony head has a barb.

Then some size 12 crane swivels, some size 0 split rings (like hook sizes, there can be variance in brands!), your favorite color and style blades. Most common would be a #6 or 4 sickle hook in the 1/32 and a #4 or 2 in the 1/16, but you can put about any hook you want in there. Eagle Claw makes some called Lil Nasty, and Mustad makes some but I've heard they run big so maybe get a size smaller than you think, or just order a pack of each size you might want. There is a bit of trial and error when you have to figure things out through ordering online.

Get some powder paint, an oven to cure it in, and you're well on your way to a new addiction.

Don't forget some GOOD split ring pliers.
Thanks Javelin 180 thanked you for this post

Smooth said it very well. The guys talking bulk buy are so correct but buy bulk after you know what ya want. Lil packs cost more per hook but it is better than having a 1000 you may never use , like me.LOL
