    Default Jig painting.

Hello . New to this site . I have a question on repainting, painted jigs . I was thinking of repainting jigs using Pro Tech powder paint. I have never used it before and was wondering if its possible.
    Thanks .

I have tried this. The problem I found was there are so many coatings out there to use that its very difficult to get a good overcoat. For instance I have used automotive powder paint on jigs. Repainting did not work with jig paints. And oil base wrinkles like an old orange when heated for powder coat and this has happened with ProTec over ProTec.. It works some times but for me if I have jigs I just don't want to use, they go in a coffee can til I have a bunch the I remelt in the driveway in a cast pot and start over. Or I let the lil woman put the in her next yard sale. Just my 2 cents.

I would recommend buying or making your own new jigs. It will be a much more enjoyable process painting a new jig vs an old, painted one.

I have a ton of old painted jigs and I have had good luck with glow jigs and thought I would try and repaint with glow. I never used powder paint before and I thought it wise to ask advice first . I appreciate your feedback and thank you . Buying new tackle is what really excel at . My wife says I am not a fisherman but a tackle collector. Thanks again.

All of the painted jigs have to be stripped before repainting will work. Dip in stripper, maybe agitate with a toothbrush, and rinse thoroughly then let dry. If that don’t git it they need to be someone else’ jigheads.

Thanks Skeetbum. After reading the replies I have kinda given up on repainting jigs. I tried a few like you said and was not happy. In the past it was always jig and minnow , leach or crawler. I just started using plastics a couple years ago . I guess I will have to do what I am really good at Buying tackle, more jigs can't hurt .

I got a couple of bags full of old jigs . I think I'll give to a young guy just starting out or maybe I should send them to Gene the fishing machine . Watching his videos got me going on this project.

Send to a young guy starting out. I have a feeling Richard already has a ton of jigs.
