Size: 55.1 KB we use eagle claw gold and red hooks to bend to fit molds like the bat jig. Heat hook on mold (with needle nose) (hot) bend to fit mold just under hook eye below bend. The hook in the mold is a Eagle Claw lil-nasty #4 sickle. We also like a number #4 in the 3/16 very hard to find that hook in a 3/16 oz jighead.

The Trick to pouring lead or any metal (bullets) is getting the mold hot (hot,Hot). We set the mold we are pouring on top or next to the hot melter before casting. Be careful around kid's,grand-kid's.

    Good tip on pre-heating.

How do you guys cut the mold to fit different hooks?

Not cutting or modifying the mold.Heat the "hook" and bend "hook" to fit mold.No cutting

Doesn't take much to heat the hook. Propane torch will have the hook red in no time. I would think you could just bend the hook without heat easily.

Won't the heat change the temper of the hook?

No.Just hot enough to bend hook. On a #4 sickle red or gold hook.Touch the" hot lead melter""be careful" with bend of hook with needle nose pliers to a count of 3.ready to bend hook.

Thanks for sharing guys! I would want to tie a Richard Gene weed guard on one of those and would expect it to come through brush while casting really good.

That's what I have done, with a slight modification - instead of just one strand, I use two, each one just a little to the sides of the hook tip, and I mean just barely, kinda like a vee. In my mind, if the lure is sliding over a limb on it's side, this will provide a little more protection to the hook tip. Seems to be working for me.
