If you're not going to get into using the mesh style stuff for the cups you can buy a couple of top cups and then use coffee filters, paper lunch bags or a piece of vacumn clear bag. Lay it on top of the bottom cup and screw the top in, make sure theres no rips and if it blows the powder right when you're done carefully unscrew it and use a different top with a new filter. That's how I started until I got the mesh.

Just be careful when you're dipping that you don't rip the filter, or you'll have a heck of a mess!!!!

What size mesh is the best screen? Would you make a cup for each color?

The guy who sent me the mesh couldn't remember the order number from McMaster-Carr. I tried several times and each time it wasn't the same and even with the "made in Switzerland and the number" it didn't match up to anything MC had, so I'm not sure which one it is. I got tired of buying some and finding it wasn't the same and having to pay to send it back.

If I can get the money together I'm going to get some of the hard mesh circles that are sold through TJ's tackle.

I don't know how many colors you want to do, but if you'll be doing ALOT of one color at a time make a cup for it. I clean mine out after every session as I don't have a dedicated work space. For myself I have 3 extra cups for each bed. If I can help anymore let me know.

Pending on time and money...I spent the $50 for 3in completed with pump from TJ Tackle along with 10 additional cups (less than $10 a piece). Just order another yesterday. One for color and another specific for clear coating.

Ok I'm going to try and redo this

This is for building a 2" fluid bed which is really good for small jigs.

This was my example, I did not make this one:

This is the adhesive that Cadman recommended and it works well, get the squeeze tube it's more than enough!!!

    Base, just a white tile

    Brass air spout 3/16th

Bottom cups - these are threaded inside

Top cups - Make sure the bottom on the top cup is FLAT not beviled, it has to be flat to put the filter mesh on

Holes drilled and brass stems inserted but not sealed yet

Stems all sealed inside and out

Bottom attached to tile - center the cup on the tile and use a piece of sandpaper to rough the surface of the tile, put the adhesive on the bottom edge of the cup and press it on the tile. Use your finger to flatten it against the outside and inside just like on a sink.

Put them on a cookie sheet and place some heavy weight FLAT on top and let them sit for 3-4 days to cure
    completed beds and cup

The mesh on the cups I got from another member here on the board - and I tried to order more through McMaster Carr and the stuff just wasn't right. TJ's tackle has pre-cut mesh for cups but you'd have to send him photo's of your cups to see if they're the right size Welcome to TJ's Tackle

I run three 2" beds at the same time using a Tetra Whisper 60 this one has dual air outlets (the picture shows a 20 but I took it back for the 60) and I use a three way air valve. Got both at PetSmart, make sure to get an extra pack of connectors.

Enjoy - they really don't take long you just have to have everything ready to go.

Why not drill and tap the outside cups rather than gluing in hose barb connectors? It would seem to make a better seal than a glob of glue on a barbed coupler. The threaded fittings are the same price.

Fatman posted this build so anyone wanting to build a bed would know how he built his and it gives a starting point of "how to build". Take and make the changes you think will work better on the bed you build.
You are right Steve, I did my bed with the threaded fittings and you don't need to tap the PVC, drill the hole a little smaller than the fitting and the threads will thread the hole as you screw in the fitting.
