Thread: Any plans?

I’m looking forward to getting up to Lake Erie on the city side and try some crappie fishing in the lagoons, docks, and piers this coming spring. May even get some jumbo yellow perch while I’m at it.

I plan on some fishing trips and want to fish some new crappie water in 2023. One place is at Lake Howard in the center of the state. I was told in the spring you can catch them in the shallows. Also the fishing pier can be a good choice to investigate. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge on it?
Lake Marburg near Hanover can be a good spot for crappie a little later in the spring if you have patience. Fishing the shallow coves and creek areas can produce so very large fish. That is if you can find them.
Anyone want to share there ideas and spots without spot burning them?

Yes I have fished it a lot , fishing pier is good take a lantern and rope fish at night , if you have boat fish under bridge and in marina around docks road beds and bay down towards breast, I think it’s hunters bay. Another place is below dam in spillway and back waters you may caught anything down there, they drop water this time of year fish get sucked out of tubes there . Make sure you read the regulations on lake. If you want more information let me know! Gary

They keep the water low from late fall until later in the spring. It is considered a flood control lake.
If you are using a boat most of the launches are not usable this time of year.

The last time I checked the limit for crappies is 10 fish maximum. Of the 10 total crappies, only 5 could be over 9 inches.
Sunfish have a minimum length of 7 inches.

Im looking forward to opening up my camp at pymatuning this spring,for most part the fishing was fantastic last year.Walleye were tougher but the yellow perch fishing was fantastic.If like channel cats its the place to go!!!!!

Zimmy: What time of year do you recomend fishing? I like when the fish are in pre-spawn or early spawn time. Also when is the best time Season to fish the pier? How can you access the spillway? I will more then likely be fishing r=from shore as I will be towing my camper. I though about making a rack to carry my canoe on it but.????

Addicted, I have fished it all year, spring is good, nice campground there but not much shade, It sounds like you like the spring, good time all areas are good then fishing pier is right on the creek channel fish out by the end of it, minnows and a bobber with rope and lantern, take a five gallon bucket, take lid cut a slot 2 by 8” in it to put fish in , to many nosey people on pier. Now spillway main road is on west side of dam go about 1 mile past park gate turn right on road 1/4mile turn right again going south pass thru trailer court on left you will see sewage plant turn on that road park by there entrance you will see spillway, walk past plant and down across the field to spillway, fish spillway and backwaters on other side of spillway, very good in spring. Also under bridge, fish the road side creek channel on that side, Howard side not as good. Good luck, if you need more info please let me know

Thanks Zimmy. My wife and I camper at the park 2 years ago but I fished another area for trout. We did ride around the lake so I have some knowledge of the area. I may try late March or early April for a starter. I like a adventure but my body is getting worn out and a few hours of activity and I am ready for a break. Walking long distances is not on my agenda any longer. I used to go to Brookville and got engaged to my wife there 43 years ago.

Oh forgot to mention regulations for spillway are different, it is part of the Susquehanna flowage 50 crappies or perch , it has walleye, Muskie and trout in it. Is your wife from Brookville? Raised there on farm, built my house on grandpa’s homestead.
