    Default Shenango Today

Crappie action from shore in the swim beach neighborhood was slow today.
Oddly, I caught not just one rainbow trout, but two rainbow trout today. I remember Chaunc catching one in the past few years in that area and others get caught now and then. Two in one day was unthinkable. I may pursue a lottery ticket later.

Hey gonefishintoday , did you get the trout at the beach too? I have never caught trout in the dam.

Yes Zimmy, the trout were caught in the lake in the Chestnut Run area. I saw the first one take the jig and nibble which was quite a surprise. A 2nd trout was complete shock. I know some end up in the lake, but realistically expect my lifetime tally for catching trout in the lake will stop at today’s catch of 2.

I haven’t caught another one yet. I have a buddy that got one a week ago.

No. They’re stocking the river that runs directly into the lake and those fish are making their way into it. Funny thing is how far they’re traveling thru the lake. They stock the northeast end and I caught mine almost to the Orangeville access area near Parkers Landing. That’s a heck of a long way to travel.

That is a harrowing swim with all of the toothy fish that would consider a trout a delicious dinner just like this toothy fisherman.

The trout are stocked at Big Bend, in the river. Guessing that the one Chaunc caught, probably swam at least 4 or 5 miles, maybe more. Just remember, that if you catch them in the lake, you have to have a trout stamp to keep them. Other wise, you have to immediately release them. I asked the state about this, when they first started stocking them above the dam.

Congrats Zimmy on catching those two.
