    Default Shenango

Lake level is dropping every day. Did good 2 days ago but last 2 days have been a bust. Where I was fishing 2 days ago the water has receded at least 25 feet. Walking along the shore is like walking is quick sand. Very muddy and the goop sticks to your boots. Than hit a soft spot and sink up to your ankles.

I was up on Friday afternoon just to see what was happening. I was told Thursday was quite good. I only coaxed 1 onto my line with jig/nibble. A few guys started nailing them on minnows in a hotspot.
With the lake just above 888 this morning it will be down to winter levels on Tuesday if they leave the gates wide open like they have been for the last week+. I guess that may be the plan with the Spring rain season upon us. The water was off colored of course with the current being generated by the wide open gates.

Yea, I agree, why the water is getting lower. But April rains will be coming.

Gonna need a heck of a lot of rain to get back to summer pool. It’s nine feet down now. What a mess getting in my boat. Don’t expect the docks to be put in until they get some water. Only good thing is if you find the fish, they’ll be in big schools. Me and my nephew took our limits of crappies.

Water is really muddy and a lot of garbage floating around. Water temp was 54 degrees the other day. White bass are tearing everything up. Been fishing from shore since I only can get out a couple hours each morning. Usually right at daylight I do good that it drops off real fast. Perch just got done spawning. Been fishing the upper end of the lake, both sides, and hardly anyone is fishing. The ones that are fishing aren’t doing any good. Even the small males aren’t up shallow yet most of the fish I have been catching are out in 7-10 fow.

I’m done fishing for crappie this year hitting the eyes now.

I gave the crappies a break yesterday and fished a few bluegill beds. This lake isn’t known for eight and bigger gills but I had a lot of fun. Fished handtied hair jigs and waxworms under a bobber. Caught them til I ran out of bait. Kept ten that were over seven inches and one crappie that was over eleven. Having a little fishfry for myself today.
