Default What's Going On At Shenango Lake

LAKE INFO FOR FRIDAY, MARCH 26:

Lake elevation: 888.62, 6 ft below summer pool
Gate Settings: Gate 4 is open to 1 ft
    Outflow depth: 2.21 ft
River depth at Transfer: 2.27 ft
    7 am air temp: 64
7 am river water temp: 48
    Weather: drizzle/high wind
    24 hour precip: .01 inch

Shenango Recreation Area and Route 18 Access Area will be closed to the public beginning March 29th.

Extensive road work in the campground is planned to begin which includes milling and asphalt paving, and will prohibit vehicle and foot travel within the area. Route 18 Access area will be closed for crew and visitor safety. The millings from the road work will be used to improve the access road at Route 18 Access.

The closure will not extend beyond May 13 and the area will be reopened as soon as possible. The other boat launches, including the Mahaney and Clark launches, will still be open to the public.

The campground is still scheduled to open May 14 as originally planned.

Any impacts (if any) to Earth Day activities will be assessed closer to April 24. We apologize for the inconvenience but look forward to improving our facilities for the public. Thank you.

They need to make an access road on the other side of the causeway. Sure would take some of the pressure of the west side. Plus it would make it a nice place to fish with those nasty west and northwest winds.

Well they should have had more fore thought, when they were making it, in the first place. Correct me if I'm wrong, but think that part of the original 18, is under the water on that side. When they started building it, had gone in the Air Force in 1970. When I came back, there was the 4 lane highway. That took a little getting use to, lol. Right now on the west side of 18, all the xmas trees they put in, are up out of the water. Also for those that bank fish, the Swim Beach gate is open. Wonder if when camping starts, if they will start closing it. Until they think it's good to swim there.
