    Default Icefishing

So I don't ice fish, but know that some of you do. Reading the NWPA Report, Daryl said that there might be ice on the bigger lakes at the end of the month. But what about smaller ones, and or ponds. I can think of 3 nearby ponds, that might be able to fish safely. Some here, might know where I'm thinking. For sure, 2 have crappie in them, and one has crappie, gills, and bass in it. But don't know what the third one has in it.

So is anyone ice fishing at all? If so, post some pictures. But a full report would be better.

Haven’t found any fish able ice in our area yet. My crew just checked four area lakes and a pond yesterday 1/24. Guys are fishing farther north east of us at the county line areas but Conneaut, wilhelm, Pymatuning, and Shenango were not good yesterday.

Checked out Parker Dam in Clearfield County. There were 5 different people out on the Ice. They even were ice skating and playing hockey. 6-7 inches of ice . Lake is on top of mountain elevation 2300’

I don't ice fish anymore, but we took a ride to get out of the house yesterday. We went to check out Kahle Lake on the border of Clarion and Venango counties. This is a PFBC lake. There are approximately 251 acres, so it is not a large lake. There were multiple shanties out on the lake and we counted at least 20 anglers. Don't know the thickness of the ice because we stayed in our car.

I was fishing on Cloe dam near Punxsutawney yesterday. There was 6in of good ice. About 10 to 15 guys were on it. They have been fishing Treasure Lake near Dubois for about 4 weeks now. I hope I can get on Wilhelm before long. Anybody know how much ice is on Wilhelm?

Okay so the 3 ponds that might be good are the 2 beside Rt 846, by the lake, and the one down the lane, that is a beaver pond, off 846, by West Lake road. Has anyone checked those out?

When ice fishing this season in PA, please be aware that:
Stationary rod holders that provide for a loaded rod, that when triggered sets the hook, are not currently legal for ice fishing within the Commonwealth (Title 58 Pa. Code Sections 63.6 & 63.10). This would include any device that mechanically sets the hook or jigs without the aid of the angler, such as the JawJacker, Automatic Fisherman, Siku, Gill O Tine, Quick Set, etc.

It appears that after tomorrow we are in for a cold spell for about a week. Those lakes close to being fishable should start to have safe ice. We have not had safe ice in South central Pa in at least 5 or 6 years. We may have got lucky enough to get 3 to 4 inches on a few smaller lakes but then get a warming spell
and rain seems to take it away. Hbg weather man just reported most days in December and January were above normal temperatures and only 4 or 5 were below normal.

Made a trip to Hermitage today. On the way home saw some ice fishing on the east side of 18, up by the point. Looked to be at least 4 people, close together., and could see o-pen water not more that about 75 feet away.
