    Default Shenango Update

The public docks at the Mahaney Boat Launch have been pulled for the season.

Didn't know they left those ones in this late.

First time they’ve ever left them in this late Keith. They usually pull them second week of October or around then. Was nice not tracking mud into my boat this last season. Hope they continue to do it this way.

Went for gas over at 5 points today, and the lake has some skim ice on it. Sorry Ice fishing people. Also the swim beach gate is still open.

I finally fished the swim beach area this morning. The lake is way down. Ice doesn’t start until about 25 yds out from where I normally get on there. The sand hump is almost completely out of the water. The grass is dang near bare now so the drag down and back was tough for this old guy. And most of all, the fishing sucked. I drilled close to forty holes searching for fish schools. Checked the deepest water that had at least 4” or more ice, 9 ft, and shallower. Started south and headed north towards the hump. Couldn’t find many. 4 of us and we took a total of 4 keeper crappies and half a dz gills in 3 hrs and got rained on before we packed it up. Fished from 9 to 12 noon. I can honestly say that the lake is shallower now than I’ve ever icefished it before. I’ll give it one more go before I call it an ice season there. I’ll fish other lakes tho.
