Default Lake Marburg, Long Arm Lake in Hanover PA

Hello I am from York PA and fish both lakes from time to time. I have had no luck catching crappies on these lakes but I know they're there. They are both clear water lakes with Marburg the deepest by far. Would anyone like to give a rookie any pointers? Also do Crappies still bit during a rainy fall cold front? Thanks in advance.

Fishingfanatic, welcome to crappie.com and the Pennsylvania board. How about answering some questions first.

    Bank or boat.
What methods are you using now.

Crappies always bite, but a cold front will usually shut them down, along with all the other fish.

I fish Marburg from time to time. I have a few spots that I can usually catch a few fish but very seldom do I catch large numbers. Spring seems to be the easiest time to catch larger numbers and some really nice fish. Look for a area with warmer water such as where a stream comes in. Also having some cover such as brush is a big help. Areas with cover with lighter colored bottoms in shallower water can attract fish. These areas can be slightly warmer and will attract fish at times. Many guys fish right against the bridge pilons. They are always worth a try but do not put all your marbles in one spot. Marburg is a tough nut to crack so do not get disappointed.
Long Arm has some really nice crappie. The only time I have done well is during spring in the cove next to the breast of the dam. It is the one across from the boat launch. A good resource is Gordon at B and B tackle in Hanover. It is the local bait and tackle shop so he gets plenty of current information.
You may want to try Pinchot. It is a smaller lake and IMO easier to figure out the crappie migration. It does not have the same number of big fish but it can be will worth your time. Good luck!

If you can get a map of the lake with contours, and depths, that should help, to locate areas to fish.
