Default where to go for crappie

we live in wilkes barre pa, been crappie fishing most of the summer, probably went out with the aluminum boat 20 or 25 times at lakes surrounding within 75 miles, results were poor maybe we caught 15 crappie in the 8 or 9" range, with the exception one around 16 inches. we were thinking of taking a trip for 2 or 3 days to catch some decent crappies, any suggestions.

Chet, come over to western Pa and fish Shenango lake for a few days. There’s plenty of places to stay within fifteen minutes of the lake and most are a straight shot to the lake. If you don’t use live bait it’s good. If you need minnows or worms and can’t bring them with you, you’ll have to cut into your fishing time to get some here. Closest place is at least twenty minutes from the launch, each way. Great shop tho. Five points is the place. It’s on the Ohio / Pennsylvania border. Using plastics and nibbles will produce as well or even better. The bite is great at this time of year. Lots of big crappies and bass. Lots of blowdowns on shorelines and shallow and deep brush piles are placed each spring by the COE. If you decide to come, let me know and I’ll help you find a few spots.

Chet, Shenango and Pymatuming are both good lakes, for just about any kind of fish, you would want to catch. You will need a motor for your boat, to get around. Shenango is unlimited, and Pymatuning is 20 hp. If you camp also, Shenango has a Corp campground, if you come, once it opens next spring. Pymy, there are lots lot places to rent, including log cabins, or camping.

    hi s10chevy

i have a 14ft smokercraft with a 25 on it, hopefully i can sell this 25Yamaha and get a 9.9 for next season so i can fish with the motor, i was up at Prompton dam a few days ago, lot of anglers say it's good down by the dam, with my electric motor i would need 2 battery's to make that run, but after 6hrs there i managed one 6" perch.. is pymatuning and shenango the same waters

No they are not the same waters. Since you have a trolling motor, I wouldn't go lower than a 20, in my opinion.

I enjoy fishing Chickahominy river above Rockahock dam near Williamsburg Va in the spring. There are some huge crappie there. Spring comes much earlier then we experience in Pa. Lodging is Available in Williamsburg at a very good rate in March. Two guys came into Ed Allens launch last year with a 10 lb. 6 ounce large mouth when we were launching. Ed said I weighed a 13 lb. yesterday! You can have days in the mid 70s or even warmer in early March so it is kind of like going to Florida in the winter. Your boat and motor will work well as well as the troller for smaller lakes in the area. Limit is 25 a day and that is expected most days. Just a nice trip and fish to take home. Also there are cypress trees in the lake with eagle and fish hawk nests.
