I took advantage of these last three days and fished three different lakes. Got 24 combined panfish on Mosquito lake the first day. Went to Shenango lake yesterday and got a limit of crappies. Went to Pymatuning lake this foggy morning and got a good combination of panfish and 17” smallie. Also caught three walleyes but none big enough to keep. Hope this weather holds on for a while. The south end of Pymy was a mad house today. The fog didn’t lift until just before ten.
It appears we are in for some rain. Unfortunately the streams are just now getting close to normal levels and flow. Water temperatures are starting to rise so we should be in the middle of some of the years best stream fly fishing. Unfortunately that is not happening in my area as fly hatches are almost non existent. A few others are experiencing the same thing so it is just not me and the few streams I like to fish. I have not got a lot of information from the warm water guys either. Both pan fishing and bass fishing does not seem to be what we would expect. Not complaining but just stating what I have seen and heard. I hope we only get a minimal amount of rain for the 2 storms that we expect in the next few days to a week. It is good to see some are doing well and that helps to brighten my spirits.
I am starting to see good hatches of Sulphur Mayflys in my area. Normally this would start the first week of May but is just starting in the last few days. I can almost always associate wild phlox with this hatch however we have had it blooming for well over a week. So I guess some forms of nature is a little late while others are on time.
