    Default Getting a little bored

I am sure many of us are felling a little tired of looking at the same four walls and only getting out as needed or some of us lucky ones can do a little fishing close to home. Her is a question to perhaps brighten you day.
Where do you want to fish at this year. Perhaps a weekend trip or even a long day on a distant waters. I am always looking for new water and it is really nice when some one can guide me - us onto a new hole to fish.
I can start it. I like to fish for shad and have fished for them in a hand full of streams and rivers. One of the most dependable April waters is behind Conowingo dam in Md. I use 1/8 ounce shad darts with 6 or 8 lb. line on my spinning rod. Or even 1/32 ounce darts on my fly rod. Red and white are my go to colors but sometimes other colors work great. I usually catch most of them on the swing.

I’d like to spend a week at Conneaut,Ohio fishing Lake Erie for walleyes, perch and crappies. It’s about a 3 hour round trip so I’d like to get lodging with an electric plug outside for my boat charging and freezer space. Would just about balance out the cost to travel back and forth every day.

For me this is a fantasy. I gave up on Lake Erie because I couldn't take the pounding after spinal surgeries. Ended up getting rid of my 90 hp and going to a 20 hp to just fish local. But 15 years ago I loved to hit Erie with my brother. He passed away early at 51 years. We hunted fished fought and argued often but it never lasted more than a few minutes. Anyways the first time I took him out the waves were running 2' or less and we had plenty of emerald shiners. He argued the whole way out that he wanted to chase the party boats but I wouldn't listen to him. Previously he had made a few trips on the party boat and thought that was ideal. I circled the pack checking my sonar saw very little and started heading west. I was grinning and he was complaining till I made that first stop. Nobody within 1/4 of a mile. We limited in about an hour with plenty of those football shaped 12-14" yellow perch which were very common back then. Wasn't my first rodeo and brother didn't know about GPS and way points. As I explained to him on the way home I had about a dozen marked and found them on the third mark. He never argued again when he was in the boat. I miss him every day. Oh by the way he could fish. Like to fish with him again, anywhere, anytime for anything.

I am homebody personally, my favorite thing is when I have a 3-4 day fishing vacation. When your sitting in the boat on day one slamming fish, knowing you have 3-4 more days of the same! I’ve tried charters for Kings on Ontario and river walleyes in the Niagara, but nothing beats three days of crappie on pymatuning with a few friends. Perch on Lake Erie was always a second favorite, but since that tanked a few years back I haven’t even targeted them! If you guys haven’t tried it Presque isle perch and crappie in the bay after ice out is a great time. If you don’t have a boat the big spawning perch come in and you can get them from shore. I have been lucky enough to land perch In The 2lb range. If you hit it right you can have a ball! I think someday I would like to do a musky charter on Chautauqua Lake in hopes of a giant!

I like to fish Pymatuning,Wilhelm and the Clarion River behind Strattanville. I love to fish for crappies and perch in early spring on Pymatuning and starting in May,my brother and I troll for walleye. The crappie are big and beautiful and the walleye are worth chasing to. The perch lately are very nice also. One time last year,we found a large school of perch on a hump and we had a blast. We filled the cooler with big beautiful perch.
I love to fish Wilhelm. The crappie aren't as nice as they are in Pymatuning but there are a ton of them. We mostly drift fish Wilhelm. If we have a good breeze,we can cover alot of water. Sometimes you can't run 3 rods the action is so fast. If there is no breeze,we troll and do very well. When we fish the Clarion River,we mostly troll for walleye with wormharnesses and bottom bouncers. We pick up alot of perch on the harnesses and they are very nice perch. In early spring before walleye season,we anchor up in the holes and fish for panfish with crawlers.

Thanks guys. I read each post and some twice. I enjoy many types of fishing and your stories are for real. Meaning: Just good down home good ole boy stories and fishing experiences and not the ones you read about in the national magazines. Not to bash those but I think most know what I am referring to.

Since some counties in Pa have opened up to yellow have anyone seen any difference? Perhaps in fishing or the general mode of most people. My county is still red and I can understand why as we are still in a higher risk area however many in lower rate areas have a little more movement.
Boy do I need a hair cut!

Fished Pymatuning last weekend and boy was it crowded. I have never seen that many boats on that lake ever. Alot of people are laid off and tired of staring at the 4 walls. If this shutdown lasts much longer,it's going to make a big impact on alot of fisheries.

We went yellow Friday but I haven't been out with the hoople heads since Thursday. I sort of think I'll stay in the barn a bit longer and observe this new found freedom and the results. Somehow I feel like a lab rat and this yellow phase is just an experiment. The way things are going here it looks like we might have more snow for Memorial Day than we had for Christmas.

Okay, please don't say more snow! Yes I need a haircut badly also, but will wait a bit longer, before trying to cut some of it myself, lol.
