Thats a new one to me....not sure what they could be ?
Does anyone know what the white grain things in the fillet are?I know the black flakes are parasites.I have caught bluegill and bass in my neighbors pond recently with white things in the fishes flesh. Are they ok to eat?Seems to be only one or two in each side of fillet.

I've always thought it was parasites also.
do you have a pic? do they move?
i wouldnt recommend eating anything till your sure its not worms. well it wont hurt you if fish is properly cooked but just the thought is icky
I think that cork is refering to the grubs. Most times they show up as a yellow spot but I've seen them in the white form. Take a knife tip and pop one out. I think you'll find it is a rolled up worm. Safe to eat after frying with grubs in the fillets, but I pick them out. mike
I dont have a picture, but it looks like a white bb.I also think it is a grub.Someone told me it makes its lifecycle with a crane eating the small fish. If i figure how to post a picture i will catch one and post it.
yes ... we've had this little discussion before, several times, and the general concensus is -- yellow grub (which can be a cream color or yellow color).
Here's a PDF link, that explains the various types of parasites that you are likely to encounter in panfish : http://govdocs.aquake.org/cgi/reprin...04/6040240.pdf
As has been already stated ... to humans, they are not harmful, just unsightly.

It sounds like what they call rice breasts. It is found mostly in ducks but have been found in fish. They look like grains of rice.I remember a story of a man cleaning ducks, cut his hand and got infected himself.Had to amputate his hand.
think of it as extra protein
