stinkies daddy is right ,i have had to rewrap more thean one rod that was not spined right.
i use a lot of eagle claw rods,as i fish thick timber here in louisiana. they are cheaper and some kind of tuff( eagle claw feather/lite series that is) my high dollar rods (any rod that coast more than 30 bucks )are for streams only,or open water.

When I fish for gills or crackers I primarily use a few of my 20 or so telescoping brim poles. I carry along two microspin UL. One withe slip cork the other with spin beetle.

Sometimes I use a fly rod, but it has the be that right time.

I never take less than 4 telescoping brim poles per person. I also prefer light wire hooks, because they straighten out easy, but when they don't I have 4 poles... now you know why. I have 20 or so because I love to take people fishing.

I use a 4'6" ultralight graphite rod. Big bream are a blast to catch on it. I use an Uncle Buck's "crappie" ultralight baitcaster with 2 pound line. I don't crappie fish with it, just the bream.

2nd Post here and I am sure i will catch some good natured flack about it.......LOL My favorite rod is a custom made G Loomis SR781-1 in IMX. Matched to a Daiwa Exist 1003. 4lb berkley fireline crystal tied to a 4ft leader of flurocarbon. Great all around ultra light rod for crappie and gills. I mainly cast and retrieve jigs an plastic tails, or small cranbaits or minnow baits. Rods are great for bigger suprises also..........

The best rod depends on the type of fishing you do. If you river fish: I have found St Croix and even Fenwick UL 5-7' very good for river fishing. If you are in a boat: It is hard for me to beat the new Wally Marshall Pro Series rod from Bass Pro Shop. It comes in multiple lengths. The tips on longer rods are very fragile and are easily broken, I wouldn't advise fishing a river with these rods until you get used to it. The rod also has a cut-out in the cork handle that is perfect for your finger to rest against the graphite blank, giving you ultra sensitive feeling. I have had many panfish rods in my life and this is my far the best. Last but not least, whatever rod you choose, don't waste your money on a nice rod and use cheap line!
Caught so many fish today my thumb is sore from clicking the counter.
