    Default Scaled down gill trip

Decided that instead of me carrying three rods and other tackle that I would try fishing the Ketchn style and fish one rod, small bottle of 1/48 duck feather jigs and a couple weighted floats in my pocket and head up the hill to the lake. Cicadas are everywhere. Felt almost naked without the extra gear. First fish was a stud gill almost 10". Realized I left phone in truck on dash so had to go back and get it. Back fishing the gills were on the feed and a few actually swallowed my jig, no hemos so let them keep my jig and swim away. Probably caught close to 50 gills, most were males and none were as big as that first one. Name: IMG_5198.jpg

    Nice catches !
I take from 1-5 rods , in the car , with me when I go . But all but the one I’m fishing with , stays in the car .
Being a bank fisherman, I try to keep everything as light as possible.
I have a camp stool I take to give these old knees a break sometimes, but it’s bag is my tackle bag .
I’ll leave the stool sometimes and will just throw some jigs in my shirt pocket , clip on my hemostats, and my snips , and take off .
Almost forgot , I always have a towel attached to my belt . I got to wipe the fish slim off my hands between catches .

Those sunnies put on one H of a fight I'll bet! The lakes I fish don't have them that big.

Nice fish Jim!! The largemouth had to be a welcome surprise. I feel naked if I don’t take 5 rods with me in the boat, but I sometimes don’t use but one or two. Like Chaser said, these knees won’t take much anymore.

Thanks everyone. Cicadas are everywhere out there and some were landing in the water. Too big for the gills to eat whole but one gill would pull it underwater and several more would come in and tear it up. They were working together to get their bellies full. Plenty of food for them this year, don't know about how they will effect fishing itself.
