    Default Short Trip

Had 45 minutes to fish before heading to KJ’s for “Catfish Friday”. Had one good shell cracker and personal best pickerel….both on Sow Bug colored Trout Magnet. Gave me all I wanted on the Lunakia 63 LML rod. Then after my wife’s doctor visit headed back out to try again. It’s great having this spot only ten minutes from the house. But this afternoon did not stay long at all…way too hot for me with no shade. But caught 2 more shell cracker and headed for the coolness of home.

Pretty place you’ve got to fish so close to home. That pickerel was a fun surprise.

That’s awesome that you have a fishing hole close by .
With good looking fish too !
Love the toothy critter! A lot of luck getting one of those in on light line .
I’m certainly happy to have a few place close by that allows me to get in short trips.

That pickerel tore up my net. I have a telescopic net I bought years ago out of Japan. I had always intended to change out the net basket for a rubber one. I thought what was on there was nylon…but it wasn’t…the net is made from silkworm gut. That intrigued me so I never replaced it. That darn pickerel started thrashing around with mouth open and put a big hole in it….LOL. Now I guess I’ll have to get a rubber basket.

    Regards

Pickerel look like our Northern Pike. If they test similar, that's a decent eater. Congrats.

    They are mean critters!
I was lucky to get the one in I caught earlier this year. I hooked it just on the edge of the lip and luckily I was able to keep the 2# test line away from its teeth .
I’ve lost several roostertails to them and I’m pretty sure I lost a jig to one last week at the same lake I caught this one .

Those fish look great for that short a trip. Landing picks is like playing the lottery, you don’t always win. That one is nice. I know what you mean about fishing close to home. I normally have three ramps within 10 minutes of the house, but 2 are under construction so I use backup ramps instead. Makes it real easy sometimes. I’m glad to see you getting out regular Randy, you couldn’t do that if the knee was still a issue. I’m going in the morning in hopes of being early enough to get a shot at a striper.

Chaser, I don’t know if Ive ever seen a longer, skinnier pick than that one. He had to have given you a hard time. They can really motor when they get a mind to. Cool fish.
