    Default Weekly Meetup

Met my fishing buddy around noon today . We had to wait for the rain to clear out , leaving a fairly warm , sunny afternoon. Got pretty hot on these two old guys .
Todays rod combos were a 6’ Abu Garcia Mass Beat III UL with a Daiwa Exceler LT 1000s , a 6’3” AG MB UL paired with a Daiwa Fuego LT1000d , and a 5’5” Daiwa Ajing with a Daiwa Fuego LT 1000d .
Fishing was tough for anything of any size today . I wound up catching 14 gills , 4 green sunfish, and two spotted bass . Even the bass were smaller than usual.
Todays top lure wasn’t the Trout Magnet , a Bobby Garland Itty Bit Swim’r in black or black/chartreuse on a 1/64 jig caught the majority.
My bud had a rough day , only catching six .
    The better ones.

Nice catches. Any comments on those 2 piece MB UL's compared to the 4 piece MB Light you have been so fond of as of late? Thanks!

    I like them both .
They both bend a little deeper into the blank than the four piece light .
I really like these rods . I think it’s the way the grip and handle fit my hand .
The Two piece seem a little more sensitive too .

I’m guessing the red one is the 6’3”? Those fish look lots better than my driving in the rain today. Glad y’all got out and found a few.

The red one is a Daiwa Ajing 5’5” . Both of the Abu Garcia rods are black and green .
I originally took the Ajing rod to fish drop shot , but lost my rig on a hang up. I retied with just a jig and Trout magnet.
I bought the rod off Amazon from Amazon Japan . It’s a 55ul-s Daiwa Gekkabijin Ajing rod .
It’s designed for jigging for small mackerel .
This is a quote from Finesse Fishing .

“Ajing rods were designed to cast light jigs, mostly under 1/16 oz, to fish that are shorter than 12", in water that has no current. An Ajing rod is wonderfully sensitive rod, and would be a truly excellent choice for catching modest fish with light jigs in lakes.”
The rod is fairly stiff , for an ultralight rod .
I would call it an xtra fast action , UL power .
I like the action better than the XUL area trout rods I have . They and the XXUL Iprimi are a little whippy .

The drop shot works great at the Town pond where I’m familiar with most of the hang ups. Fishing blind with the dropshot results in a lot of hang ups especially around rocks .
That’s why I switched to a lighter 1/64 jig and Bobby Garland , so I could swim the jig over the rocks .
My fishing buddy got hung up and broke off more than usual today . I think he lost six jigs at the first boat ramp we fished . And we were only there an hour .

Funny thing, I was just looking at the Daiwa rods yesterday and the gekkabijin were one of my stops. I like the grip and reel seat they use and I haven’t been able to find the Eva handle for that seat, only cork, and I have to cut it down and shape it. Maybe I’ll get lucky. Makes me happy to see you and your friends enjoying these short trips. My brother doesn’t live too far from y’all and I can’t talk him into getting out and doing a short trip like this. I know there’s water near enough, he’d enjoy it.
