No Spoon, You didn't as far as I'm concerned anyway. It can get hair pullin' aggravating the way some folks talk and behave these days...

Yes Sir, fish for what makes you happy! I have been looked down upon many a time by those types. I don’t pay them no mind. But I do usually get to rub their noses in it when I get to the landing the same time they do. I most of the time show them what they don’t have… supper! And I promise big baits do not matter. This one hit a 1/32 jig with a Bobby Garland, haha made a fellow cuss when I caught her, he had been bass fishing all day he said. He cranked up and left when I put her back in the water!

I too was bitten by the B.A.S.S. bug and followed the southern pro's on TV every Sat. advertising crap still stored unopened in my basement.

The thing that bothered me most was their distraction away from my posts about lurecraft and lure modification that many actually appreciated. Sharing what I've discovered and learned, to me, is as important as the sport itself. Their thing is bragging; mine is opening up the universe of possibilities other anglers may find helpful and interesting regardless the fish they target or the waters they fish.

Denying the fact the small lures are capable of catching big fish shows their ignorance, closed mindedness and a limited imagination. In fact, rather than push tackle or products, my thing is to push whatever helps me catch fish of any species or size using light tackle vs the 7' hvy action rods and 30 lb test mono of days past. These fish (channel catfish, carp, bass and white sucker) put up just as much fight as any large bass and I was proud of the fact they didn't break my 8 lb test line or med. action pole!

BTW, none were caught on anything except small lures.

To each his own when it comes to the why, how and what we fish for.

Note: the site all of a sudden is down since yesterday.

Great post, spoon! I have never lost my love of panfishing, and on the right equipment pound for pound are some of the toughest guys out there! They have given me countless hours of fun. Like everyone has said, fish for what you like to do and take what the water gives you. As I get older (heck, I AM old) I’m taking out less and less stuff and really enjoying a minimalist approach.

Catching big fish on small lures has been my specialty since I was a teen fishing for carp with a single piece of corn and 4lb test line. Biggest bass, Black and white crappie were all caught on small to tiny baits. Fact is fish aren't hungry and active most of the time and ignore big baits but stick a little snack in front of them and they suck it in. I was hybrid striper fishing a few days ago throwing bigger baits and nothing. Water is still pretty cold, probably mid 40's. Started thinking it's looking kinda skunky today and out of desperation I grabbed the light rod rigged with a duck jig under a float and first cast the skunk was over. Next half hour produced five nice white bass and five Skipjack that were jumping all over the place when hooked. Little stuff saved the day, again.

Not only agree but will post something totally out of sink with the majority when it comes to chosing lures. It might even make sense to some! LOL

We all pretty much started fishing the same way- for panfish. I guess after 60+ years of fishing, I'll end up the same way as I started.
