    Default Windy Pond trip

What’s up with all of the high winds, almost everyday lately ?
A Front came through last night . 44 degrees this morning with a 14mph wind and gusts to 27mph .
But the sun was shining ! I had Togo fishing.
I left the baitcasters at home and took my 5’6” Daiwa Trout X UL paired with a Daiwa Legalis LT 1000d spooled with 3# P-line .
I built a couple spinners this morning and that’s what I used mostly .
I caught a small green fish on one of my spinners but that was it for the first hour
I tried a float and jig trying to catch a gill of some kind and caught a little bigger green fish , so it was back to the spinners .
I fished the sunny side of the town pond most of the time because every time I walked over to the shaded dam side , it was like trying to fish against a hurricane .
I would try about 10-15 minutes until my hands with fingerless fleece gloves would feel like they were frost bitten . trying to cast against the wind was tough .
I got two green fish , that was it .
I’m beginning to see a few trees starting to bud , hoping for an early spring.

Well earned couple of fish. I admire your persistence in poor conditions. Most folks would stay home. Calling for cool, strong winds in the morning here but NiNo and I are going to the river to stay out of the wind, I hope, and try and find a few. Y’all look at the Florida board at what Up2Specks has done this week. Makes a man have trouble concentrating during the work day.

Reading these stories is when I can appreciate the warmer parts of the country. Glad you guys are getting out. Crazy cold here in the NE right now.

    Default 2-04-23 Back Again

I went back to the Town pond again this morning.
It was colder last night than the night before and colder this morning at 11:30 .
The wind , blowing from a different direction today and thankfully not as strong . Still it was pretty cold , even on the sunny side of the pond .
I had gone specifically targeting the green fish this morning, with homemade spinners , Bobby Garland Baby Shad’s fished weightless , and 4” senko type worms .
In an hour and half , nothing I had drew a strike .
I even went to the car and found some mini Trout Magnets and some 1/80 handtied jigs that I fished float and fly didn’t work .
I dung around in tge tackle I what I had taken with me and found a single bison Trout magnet body .
I did have jigheads , so I tied on the only TM I had with me and walked over to the shaded dam side of the pond .
With my first cast as I twitched the bison TM in , I got my first bite and caught my first fish of the day . A nice little bass . I was happy to see and feel something on my line .
About thirty minutes later I told myself , if I would catch one more , I’d pack it in and go home to warm up .
About three casts later , I hooked up on what turned out to be the nicest one I’d caught at the pond lately.
I’m going to have to put some TM bodies in my fishing stool pouch and leave them in there .
Today my fish were caught on my 6’ St Croix Avid panfish paired with a Daiwa Fuego LT 1000d , spooled with 3# P-line .

The Avid Panfish is a step above the Regular Panfish and Trout series from St Croix .
But I think a lot of it is in the grip and handle .
They finally put a comfortable handle on a Panfish rod .
