    Default 02-25-23 Town pond trip

We had a front come through early this morning , dumping a good bit of rain on us .
It filled the pond again .
Weather was cloudy to partly cloudy turned back to cloudy in the two hours I fished .
Very windy 12mph with gusts to 36 .
I had to time my casts between the gusts .
I started off fishing a clear glitter Trout Magnet I dyed chartreuse on my 6’3” Abu Garcia Mass Beat paired with a Shimano Sahara FJ filled with 2# P-line .
I hooked one bass with that jig/combo , but it came unhooked about half way in . Than nothing for several casts . I switched to a black/green Bobby Garland Itty Bitty swim’r and on my second cast caught a nice little yearling bass .
A couple cast later I caught another but it tangled in a small branch at the shore and got off right in front of me .
After an hour I switched over to my 5’4” St Croix old model Panfish rod paired with Shimano 500 Sahara fl spooled with 6# blue Daiwa J8 Grand braid with a 4# P-Line Flouroclear leader .
I tied on a 1/32 Crappie Magnet jighead and a Trout Magnet Sowbug body with the end tips dyed chartreuse.
I used this to hook five more bass but only got two in .
I don’t understand how these little bass are getting off before I can get them in . I think overall I hooked eight or nine fish and only got three in .
I liked the Daiwa braid , it’s the best casting braid I’ve used .
Even fishing in the wind , I didn’t experience any wind knots . The braid added sensitivity and I could feel everything my jig was doing .
    Still no bluegills .
These were the two bigger ones .

It is . I’m starting to like chasing these green fish . Even the little ones are fun on UL and they’re willing to bite !

We had winds in excess of 40 here today with driving winds. I bet casting was a chore. Thanks for sharing

I'd try a different jig if you are losing too many fish. I've had the same problem with the crappie magnet plated dart heads which I bought because they were plated but for whatever reason I'd lose more fish than I caught. Switched to a jig with a sickle hook and problem solved.
