Default Where are the gills ?

Spent a couple hours at the Town Pond this morning.
Weather was foggy and low sixties.m
I started off fishing a 7’ Daiwa Procyon UL and Shimano Sahara 500 loaded with 2# P-line .
I was using a 1/200 trout magnet jig head with a 1.25” black ice fishing body , under a 3/4” weighted snap on float , hoping to locate a few gills .
On my first cast I hooked up with something that came off about half the way in.
I went about thirty minutes before hooking up with the second largest bass of the morning.
I swapped out my rod for my 6’3” Abu Garcia Mass Beat paired with a 500 size Sahara and 2# line . And changed my vest out for my Crappie.com hoodie .
With this I tied on a 1/64 TM jighead and a sowbug TM . And caught two little bass .
I switched to a black TM body that I dyed the tips with my Zoom chartreuse dye pen .
With this combo I caught two more bass included the biggest of the day .
I don’t know where the gills have gone but I’m having fun the bass on my Abu Garcia MB .
The Abu Garcia is becoming one of my favorite rods to fish with .

Found this little creature crawling across the cart path . Never seen one like this one .

I always enjoy your posts. The gills are giving you a break so you can enjoy those green fish. And like you, I’ve never seen a crawler like that. With the reputation some of them have I wouldn’t be excited about touching it either. He’s cool looking though.

    Default 01-20-23

Hit the pond again this morning.
We had a front come in last night dropping temps again and bringing the wind . A steady 10mph with gusts to 21mph .
Sunny and low fifties but the wind made it feel cooler.
I gave it my all trying to catch a bluegill .
I spent two hours fishing the drop shot , float and jig and micro jigs without a fish .
The last half hour I threw a Sowbug TM on a 1/32 ball head jig and caught two bass that salvaged the trip and kept the skunk off .
I took several rods but caught the bass on a 5’ St. Croix Premier ULF rod paired up with an old Shimano Sahara 500 , spooled with 3# P-Line .
