    Default Day of the Warmouth

It was another beautiful morning this morning. The temp was 64 degrees when I left the house around nine but warmed up quickly .
I took a 6’3” 1-2wt fiberglass flyrod this morning to chase green sunfish.
But the catch(es) of the day were warmouths. Five out of the fourteen fish I caught this morning were warmouths . Three were nice ones .
I’ve been catching more warmouths lately , I’m not sure why . They’re just showing up in the areas where I’ve been targeting the greenies .

The ones I’ve caught most certainly acted like monsters.

Ahh, yes .... ye 'ole Warmouth !! Bane of many a Bass angler flipping a jig/trailer in the Spring. I've personally launched a few of them out of the water and completely over to the other side of the boat with my "big Bass hookset".

Actually caught a couple really nice ones one day at a local lake, running a Wee R crankbait parallel down a rock slide bank. Best I remember they were in the same size range as the one in the next to last of gillchaser999's pics. Gave both of them a pat on the head, thanked them for the pullage, & sent them back to keep on doing what they do.

Greenies, on the other hand, are quite simple for my partner & I to catch ... by simply getting a jig or Road Runner within a foot of the rocky shorelines, on another lake we frequent.

Those are some good ones. I like catching them and used to fish a logging canal that was loaded with em. More recently, I’ve had a few days where it seemed that everything I caught of size on certain days were Warmouth. Not complaining but I never figured out why they were there on those days and go weeks without showing their face.
