Ton of post on here about Trout Magnet. I pretty much only use 3 colors...Bison...Root Beer Float, and Sow Bug.

I fish the north end of KY lake. Bison and Bulldog colors work really well for me.

Bison is my go too. I mainly fish TM under a float.

My favorite color for gills is the olive with red flake. After that I suppose bison or bulldog.

If your not big on carrying 30 colors - just in case, - the color Heavy D gets it done as well as any. It's a laminate of clear plastic with flakes and pearl bottom - just the right brigtness and subtle flash.

More important is jig weight and hook size. 1/32 or 1/64 oz. is more than heavy enough for a slower drop and best lure action. #8 Hook size (Unpainted jigs do fine.)

Your line must be thin in diameter for the best action and strike detection. 6# test braid = 4# mono.

Slow reel handle turns with pauses allow the best and slowest presentation. Straight & steady retrieves of the Magnet are a waste of time as well as moving the rod tip too much. Curl tails must me retrieved or dropped at a certain speed for the flapping-action to happen; not Magnets. In fact, the magic of the Trout and Crappie Magnets is the lack of a curly tail other grubs have. The thin straight double-tails quiver a little and just enough for fish to detect.

The presentation action that gets struck is the glide & dart at the slowest speed.

I use Trout Magnets a lot. Black, white, chartreuse, Harding/bison, Tennessee shad, purple redemption are my go to for Crappie magnets and trout magnets. I use both with an ez trout float. 1/32 double cross jig heads
