That's a good looking rod, nice job on the build. Like the colors on those redbreasts.
I headed out this morning to fish the same reservoir I fished yesterday.
When I arrived , the parking lot was packed as was the dock and the pavilion.
I turned around and decided to check out the creek , hoping it wasn’t as crowded.
The creek had more folks than I would have liked but all but a couple weren’t fishing .
I think they were having a family reunion as they were huddled around the picnic area .
The old friend I fished with is a 6’6” 2wt flyrod I built myself a few years ago . Built on a deep blue Rainshadow blank .
It took a few casts to get used to the stroke , but in no time it was putting my fly where I needed it too . Whether I used a roll cast or an overhead cast . Actually, I rarely cast overhead, it’s more of a side arm cast , holding my rod at around two o’clock.
The chosen fly was a hot pink spider I tied up yesterday , after having good luck with a red one yesterday.
In just barely over an hour , I brought ten to hand . The first three or four were redbreast , then bluegill dominated my catch .
My last little fellow I’m not sure what it was unless it’s a stunted old creek bluegill . It was as round as it was long and thick .
I love creek fishing even if they’re little guys . You never know what’s going to bite .

I went back to the creek this morning, expecting high muddy water after two afternoons of thunderstorms.
But the water looked about the same as before except it may have been about six inches higher .
Which helps IMO .
Fished a 6’7” 3wt and a CGT 7’ 3wt .
I preferred the 6’7” 3wt . It would load easier and roll cast better . I roll cast a lot and prefer it . I’m more accurate with the roll cast .
Flies were a mix of size 14 spiders and a couple of nymphs . The spiders out fished the nymphs today .
I caught eleven small gills , mostly redbreast or spotted sunfish . Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference.
They’re both very colorful.
