Default A little CGR fun this morning

Cabelas CGR , Custom Glass Rod , fly rods .
This morning I took my first generation 5’9” 3wt and my second generation 6’2” 2wt to the largest local water reservoir this morning.
On the 3wt I had a 4/5 Redington Zero reel loaded with a 4wt line and on the 2wt , a 3wt line on my Orvis Battenkill 1 reel .
Started off with the 3wt and it didn’t disappoint. Switched to the 2wt and it performed well but I didn’t like it as much as the shorter 3wt .
The darker green is the 2wt second generation CGR .
I wondered how the 3wt would cast with the Orvis 3wt combo , so I took a little break and swapped the reels .
The 3wt line worked great . The little 5’9” CGR is an amazing little rod that’s just a hoot to fish for small gills .
Short casts weren’t a problem and when I tried longer 25-40’ cast , I had no problem casting that distance with a size 12 spider . With Foam spiders , it worked better with shorts cast . The 4wt line may allow longer casts with the larger flies , but most of my small gill fishing is les than 25’ .
A partly cloudy sky with thunderstorms predicted sometime today. Humid , low 80’s .

I like the “rustic” look to your photos. Thanks for sharing

I have heard a lot of positive comments about those rods. That looks like a blast.

Thanks fo4 the ride along, gill. Love that shape grip. Not crazy about Tennessee grips, but sure looks like a sweet setup. Nice!

Taking my 4wt out this morning so wish me luck. Wish you lived closer, you’d have a ball on the St Johns. Love the colors on your fish.

    Default 07-04-22 Happy 4th !

Started my Fourth of July with a short trip to Lake Kedron, the water reservoir that’s just over 10 minutes away .
This morning I micro fished with my new CGR , a 5’9” 3wt White River CGR from Cabelas/BassProShop .
Paired up with a small Albright clicker pawl fly reel loaded with a WF 3wt line .
The short 3wt CGR feels a lot like the 2wt Butterstick.
Even tiny gills put a nice bend in it .
I caught 13 this morning . Someone had beat me to the ramp and fed the school a loaf of bread .
The first gill I caught threw up a wad of bread . Then I noticed two slices floating next to the dock piling .
I ordered the CGR out of curiosity , wondering if they had changed . I thought the WR CGR was going to be a black blank , but it’s a dark olive like it’s Cabelas brother .
These are a fun rod for $80 .
I like the cigar grip on these rods , but with they had a locking reel seat .
Love the different color combos on these little fish . Especially the one that’s so yellow it looks golden .

Nice catches! You sure have some good looking fly setups for panfish.
