Default Last Trip to Laurel Hill.

Spent the day at Laurel Hill Lake….of course I darn near melted. This will in all likelihood be my last visit to the lake. Could be moving to Arkansas in as soon as 2 months. While I caught a lot of 8-8.5 inch Gills and had a fun day using the Fine Tail Banshee 6’ SUL I kept thinking about the glory years I had on the lake from 2009 through about 2015. Those years 9-9.5 inch fish were the norm with a couple of 10 inch fish on each visit. But as we all know things change over time. But the lake appears to be headed back to those years. The bluegill are getting bigger compared to the past 4 years or so. Ive had a whole lot of fun there fishing.

    Regards

    Very nice Randy .
I know what you mean about lakes coming back . The two closest water reservoirs to me for the last couple of years , I wouldn’t catch anything around the docks and boat ramp it was so heavily fished .
With the new rule requiring out of county visitors to have a permit to use the parks and fish , I’m catching 20-30 small gills per hour visits lately . Hopefully these will become larger in the next couple of years as the lakes make a comeback with the pressure off .

I always like to hear of lake making a comeback, it gives me hope for some of my local waters.

On a side note. Is that a small dam in the background of your pics or some type of optical illusion I am seeing??

That is a dam……the lake is 60 feet deep and 325 acres. My dad was a heavy equipment operator and worked on the building of the lake….which was completed in 1958.

Some pretty gills and I know it was fun. It’ll be tough leaving all these waters you have history on. Better things ahead.

Glad you got in another trip to Laurel Hill before the move. I need to see if I can get one of my boys to go up with me some time.
