Hello all,
I have been having fantastic success (for me anyway) with a 1/64th oz trout-magnet and an ultralight set-up. However, that success might be over in some lakes as the lily-pads have finally reached the surface in my area. I can cast right down between them, but risk snapping the rod when I try to retrieve my jigs. With an ultralight pole and 4-lb line, I simply do not have enough force to pull it through the pad stems.
Is there such a thing as a weedless version of the trout magnet or something in the 1/64th to 1/32nd oz range? I appreciate any advice.
Greg

1/32oz weedless jigheads are made by several companies. Not sure about 1/64oz, though.

Trying to make a 1/64 ounce Trout Magnet jig head weedless is not an easy task..the hook and jig head itself is just too small. The Richard Gene method just will not work on that jig head. I eventually tried the Southern Pro plastic weed guard in the small size but it just did not work out either. Bottom line is you just don't have a lot of room to work with on 1/64 jig head with a #8 hook. Following this with interest...as of yet I have not found anything that will work.

there is one way i have done a 1/64th. take one of those tiny stirring straws like from a coffee shop. cut it into lengths that will go from just in front of the jig eye to just in front of the barb on the hook, poke a hole in one end and mash it over the eye. then just insert the other end over the end of the hook. this is a little time consuming but it does work.

Anyone tried adding a safety-pin type spinner blade to the trout magnet and had luck? Johnson makes a 1/32nd oz beetle spin I see and they are fairly weedless. Amazon.com
