    Default 5/20 Bluegill Beds

Good friend and myself smoked them yesterday. Threw back several 8-9 inch fish, and kept 39 for the grease. All came from 4 different beds in 12-17 FOW.

One thing I thought was interesting- You could run the bank and catch smaller fish almost every cast (2-4 inches), but almost every single fish that came from one of these deep beds was big enough to filet. Scanned for likely 1-2 hrs and only came across 4 beds.

another interesting note- not one shell cracker bed. Got lucky I guess and picked 2 decent ones off the edges of these bluegill beds, but scanned and fished for hours hunting some big shellcrackers in their typical spawning locations with no luck.

When beds are deep the bluegill are large. The only place I’ve run upon beds around here that deep is at Fall Creek Falls.

Some real nice fish there, especially that first one on the board.

Good catches, deeper beds here usually have the better fish as well.
